About Me

Hello, and thank you for visiting my blog website. I began violin lessons at the age of 8. My studies were mostly done through private lessons. To complement my private studies however, I participated in many symphony orchestras, chamber groups, quartets, solo endeavours, and attending professional workshops.

I received my Grade 8 Violin certificate from the RCM at the young age of 15, and though I have achieved ARCT level of playing, I did not pursue further certifications. I began teaching the violin in 2002 but took a break from it after 2007. (In case you are curious, my other career life has been and still is in the environmental education field). In 2013, I attended the Suzuki summer institute where I received teacher training in the Suzuki method. However, my style of teaching, perhaps somewhat reminiscent of the Suzuki method especially for younger students, will not be exclusive to that teaching style.

Though I was classically trained, I have a great appreciation for other styles of playing, most notably, the fiddle tradition. I feel fortunate to be a part of a time in the history of the wonderful violin where its versatility is well established, accepted and appreciated.

Where perhaps many people my age wish they had continued with the instrument they studied as a child, I am glad that I continued in my pursuit of learning the violin; and now, I am happy to assist others, regardless of age, to successfully pursue this challenging, but truly awesome and enjoyable instrument, (after studious practice, of course :).

Take care and I hope to hear from you soon!
